Statement
I have been practicing art since I was a child, and my interest has always been in the human body, the face primarily. I am an observational artist and work best with a reference photo. I choose photos with imperfections or marks on the skin, such as pores, freckles, wrinkles, etc. because my favorite thing about portraits is capturing textures. I also enjoy learning about the different features in each person’s face and what makes them who they are. This forces me to tune in and focus on details we don’t usually fixate on when say, talking to someone. If a face is flat and smooth, I find it less satisfying because for me, there is less work to do, and less personality shown. Although I have worked mostly in graphite and charcoal drawings, I am also practicing other art forms, such as traditional painting, digital painting, 3D modeling, ceramics, as well as SFX makeup and henna. When viewers see my work, I hope they get a sense of familiarity or awe, because I love to focus on emotions, and mental sensations in my subject matter. My work may seem a bit unorganized because of all the different forms I enjoy creating with, but I base art on the enjoyment I get from creating each piece, or the feelings the viewers get after I share them.
